A number of listening experiments have been made to investigate the effect of tone masking noise. The results are needed to build more accurate psychoacoustic models to be used both in perceptual coding algorithms and perceptual measurement schemes. In this paper listening tests on tone masking noise in the frequency domain and in the time domain (forward and backward masking) will be presented.
