This paper presents two digital equalization techniques, one based on an FIR structure and the other on a hybrid FIR/IIR structure. Discussion is given on the forms each equalization approximation takes and, consequently, the beneficial attributes apropos audio equalization. A practical comparison of the two techniques is given which shows potential gains may be achieved using the hybrid FIR/IIR filter type.
