A Study on the Practicality and Accuracy of Impulse Response Calculations for the Auralization of Sound System Designs

Document Thumbnail

Auralization is one of the advanced tools becoming available to sound system designers and acoustic CAD developers. Convolution and D/A conversion techniques are almost entirely DSP hardware-dependent, and DSP technology is maturing rapidly. It is important for acoustic engineers to implement auralization using impulse response calculation methods that are practical, yet accurate enough for sound system design purposes. In this paper the key factors for impulse response calculations are described and a practical solution yielding suitable results is revealed.
