This paper outlines a virtual imaging localization test system which uses interaural time and level differences, measured using a dummy-head, to investigate the 'non-anechoic' or real room imaging performance of some two- and four-loudspeaker audio reconstruction systems compared to real source localization. The results presented highlight the analytical potential of one simplified localization theory and provide a basis for surround sound system design optimization.
