Broadcasters often find it necessary to reduce the dynamic range of certain types of audio program material, either for technical reasons or because of listeners' requirements. This paper describes DSP-based equipment for reducing the dynamic range of musical program material unobtrusively, without introducing the impairments with conventional limiters and compressors.
