A Powerful New VLSI Processor for Digital Audio

Document Thumbnail

This paper describes a new VLSI chip that uses Fourier transform technology and a processing architecture never before used in a low-cost monolithic circuit. The chip is internally wired to implement two independent 2048-tap filters with coefficients that can be changed at will. It includes a powerful processor which is programmable through an easy to use assembly language which provides various functions suitable for acoustic environment simulation. The chip uses industry-standard bit-serial data formats and has a noise performance that exceeds 100 dB relative to full scale. A low cost but full-feature development system for use with a personal computer is also available.
