ISO/MPEG/AUDIO/LAYER 3 is the most powerful member of the ISO 11172 coder family. For example, the bit rate switching avoids synchronization problems and allows the use of the H221 protocol in ISDN networks. These features are described and the benefits for different applications illustrated.
