Successive frames of audio signals often have similar spectral properties. A technique is proposed which allows coding rate reduction in such intervals by utilizing their differences from specific reference frames. Then, for stationary signal sections, the subjective differences between each frame and the reference one are coded, and unused bits are saved to be allocated for coding intervals of more transient nature.
