A digital networked system, developed to SABC specifications, is being implemented to distribute commercials and schedules to 23 individual radio services throughout South Africa. The system, based on industry-standard computer technology, provides the scope for country-wide digital networking of systems supplying compressed digital audio commercials, news actuality, and other program material to on-line playout units in radio studios. The system replaces an SABC-developed analog tape-based system which has been operating for the past 16 years.
