Data reduction of high-quality audio signals has become increasingly more important, particularly in connection with the facilities of digital telecommunications, e.g. ISDN. Data reduction makes it possible to transmit high-quality audio from one point to another just by dialing. This paper discusses present status and future implications of this subject.
