In order to properly understand the sophisticated computerized measurement systems of today, it is proper and useful to examine the technological developments and systems that gave birth to the science of audio measurement. This paper will make the examination from both historical and a scientific perspectives, and cover the many forgotten scientists and theorists that contributed their ideas and their developments to the centuries-long process that brings us to the hardware and software of today.
