This paper describes a signal for testing the transparency of digital audio links, equipment, and storage media. The signal has been developed from the pseudorandom patterns used in telecoms error-rate and jitter measurements. An analyzer implementation is presented that can differentiate between errors, blocked bits, and sample slips. The role of crosscorrelation in the testing of dithered requantizers is discussed.
