The new facilities for the department for light and sound design of the Finnish Theater Academy has been built on top of an old theater, the Salminen theater. The facilities include, apart from classrooms and offices, a large audio studio, a lighting test room, two smaller audio editing rooms, and the old theater. The paper describes the design and construction of the facilities and the renovation of the Salminen theater. The project involved dimensioning of the sound isolating constructions, design of the audio and video facilities, and connections of both the department and the theater, as well as the room acoustic design of the facilities.
