The broadcasting industry is rapidly changing from analog to digital transmission. The compressed digital audio and video signals must be decompressed and converted to analog signals by a set top decoder box. The broadcast audio decoder integrated circuit contains a programmable DSP and a stereo D/A converter which perform the audio compression and conversion functions. The chip and its interaction with the rest of the system are described.
