Problems arising with the use of existing analog audio cables for AES/EBU digital audio signals have prompted an investigation into the choice of twisted-pair cables used for such interconnections. The conclusion reached is that there are several high-performance data cables better suited to these signals than the standard cable types currently used. While a coaxial cable may offer better performance, the twisted-pair cables identified can operate over distances of 500 m or more and at a cost which is significantly less than the cables currently in : use.
