The EC directive 98/336/EC on EMC will require all electrical and electronic apparatus supplied to the market from 1996 January 1 to comply with legally enforced EMC standards. These will apply to any product taken into service within the EC irrespective of country of origin and of volume of manufacture. This paper outlines the standards and their origin.
