The expectations of listeners in churches have changed. The desire is now to achieve more liveness, longer reverberation times, and a sound field, such as bathinbg in sound. The sound system must overcome these conditions in order to achieve a sufficient speech intelligibility. Acoustical conditions and the basic requirements for the sound system will be described using examples, such as the Michel in Hamburg and a new church in Mainz.
