Many musicians need a head-worn microphone with good sound quality, superior gain before feedback, and isolation from ambient sounds. Recently, a differential microphone has been designed to meet these needs. This paper discusses the design goals, choice of polar pattern, and testing. It also covers the physics of microphone feedback, differential operating principles, and proximity effect.
