The use of digital filters enables one to generate loudspeaker crossover filters which sum to unity when measured on axis. However, due to the physical construction of multidriver cabinets, the crossover filters will not sum to unity when measured off axis. This paper proposes an adaptive loudspeaker digital crossover system which uses the psychoacoustic effect of masking to conceal the polar aberrations, by dividing the crossover region into frequency bands and moving the crossover frequency between bands in a psychologically optimum manner.
