The POM system is a perceptual objective measurement tool for use in the design of audio bit-rate reduction codecs and in the quality assessment of perceptually encoded audio signals. This paper reports on the validation phase of this tool using subjective tests data bases. The results are used as a basis to discuss the applicability domain of such systems.
