All of the coding algorithms with high bit-rate reduction process the two channels of a stereo signal independently. In contrast to little similarities in the time domain, the spectral coefficients show dependencies. Especially the magnitudes and the logarithmic magnitudes of the spectral coefficients are correlated. The correlation coefficient is used as a measure for the linear relationship between the two signals and the modifications of the signals caused by a coding-decoding process.
