First work on ASIC realization of the decoder for OCF (optimum coding in the frequency domain) has been done. High quality low bit-rate coding algorithms like OCF are now ready to be integrated into professional consumer audio equipment. OCF allows coding of CD-quality signals down to 2.0 bit per sample. An OCF-decoder chip can be realized using today's available technology.
