Audio Signal Processing and Error Concealment in Digital Recorders Using General Purpose DSP's

Document Thumbnail

Audio signal processing for functions such as fade-in and fade-out going into stop, play, or record, or the cross-fade while switching between input and repro, are relatively simple to implement in an analog recorder. To do the same in a digital recorder requires very fast and complex hardware. Usually, this hardware must also allow for various error processing functions, such as interpolation, mute and splice. All of today's solutions are based on a discrete hardware approach, which results in very little flexibility and a long development time. This paper shows that a standard signal processor, such as the well-known TMS32010, can implement all of the audio signal processing functions which are necessary in a digital recorder.
