High Fidelity Multiband Hearing Aid

Document Thumbnail

This analog portable (pocket size) hearing aid is a binaural realization which uses multiband audio compression. It is meant to enhance comfort when listening to music for the hearing impaired (presbyacousis). Both channels (right and left ear) are split into three bands which each have their own compressor. Each compressor is trimmed in order to fit the overall dynamic range of the residual listening areas of the user's ears. The assembled prototype has its supply either form the mains or from batteries (10 hours autonomy). Its bandwidth ranges from 40 Hz up to 9 kHz. It also includes an output for headphones and accepts either a line or microphone input.
