A Small Studio Complex for Radio and Television-Acoustic Requirements and Results

Document Thumbnail

The Hessen Radio and TV Corporation (Hessische Rundfunk) (HR) in Frankfurt opened its new studio complex in 1989 in Wiesbaden, the capital of the state. Its main function is to transmit the latest news for radio and TV. The studios and control rooms had to be integrated into an existing office block, parts of which are "historically protected." Special constructions were necessary to fulfill the acoustical requirements, e.g. between the studio and the conference room above it, between it and the plant beneath, adjacent studios or external walls with double-window structure. Optimal room acoustical conditions were achieved by "aimed acoustics" (gazielte Akustik) by installing sound absorbing materials and reflections. The requirements, constructual measures, and results will be described, together with reference to a variety of experiences and publications.
