Experimental results derived using real-time hardware together with supporting software simulations reveal that for Infinite Impulse Response digital filters, low level chaos acts as self dither that both decorrelates truncation distortion and aids linearization of low level DAC nonlinearity. The process is examined for a range of filter frequency responses, in particular ones that can match the requirements for loudspeaker equalization.
