An All-Digital Continuity-Room Architecture for Satellite Broadcasting

Document Thumbnail

Mac-packet systems have been adopted in Europe for direct broadcasting by satellite (DBS) as a new transmission standard for television programs. These systems allow the transmission to the consumer of several digital audio channels sampled at 32 kHz for stereo or multilingual productions. To handle this increased capability, an all-digital continuity room was designed. Its architecture is described, including various pieces of digital audio equipment and a remote control network. Emphasis is on signal quality, cost savings, and on the flexibility provided by an advanced integration of new technologies.
