The perception of depth is a part of the auditory impression often badly reproduced. However, in order to establish a design goal for the accuracy in distance reproduction, the human perception of distance must be known. This paper describes experiments performed with physical sound sources (loudspeakers) placed in different rooms at various distances and angles relative to the listener.
