When implemented digitally, the audio mixing console requires a computation engine rated in thousands of MIPs. Such rates are possible only by using highly concurrent multiprocessor architectures comprising in the order of 100 devices. Regardless of interconnection scheme, task scheduling strategies are necessary to efficiently utilize the available hardware resource in varying recording situations. Preferred scheduling policies are evaluated with regard to the hard real-time constraints imposed by the audio engineering environment.
