In the past, interfacing to the AES/EBU serial digital audio standard was never easy. Previously available integrated circuits had bugs or restricted access to the data. Recently, new integrated circuits have appeared that promise to change the state of affairs. This paper reviews the current options available to circuit designers. It includes schematics of circuits as well as details of circuit design. Connection to DSP chips is summarized in the conclusion.
