Many people hear audibly unmusical sound reproduction from compact-disk players, despite continuing distractions by unsound arguments from both subjectivists and objectivists. I have conducted some test-bench experiments which suggest where the problems aren't. I survey some physical mechanisms which certainly do cause errors and distortions, and examine implications for the design of better CD players.
