Ever since it became common knowledge that sound levels above 85 dBA could produce hearing loss, public concern has been voiced that music, not only popular but also classical, might damage hearing. However, hazard depends not only on level but also on duration and temporal pattern. Perhaps this explains why a review of the relevant evidence, other than anecdotal, indicates that the risk of damage from music is minimal.
