Subjective evaluation of audio components has been portrayed by some as being imprecise, difficult to properly implement, and requiring extraordinary efforts to maintain validity. This paper describes a methodology for, and explores some of the technical details of subjective listening tests which are structured to be useful to non-statisticians, and allow determination of actual differences, yet not violate reasonable criteria for validity.
