Today FM radio listeners find the sound quality of many stations unacceptable as compared to the sound of Compact Discs and Digital Audio Tapes. This paper will explore the problems (such as high frequency phase cancellations) that exist with many stations who are using tape based formats (such as NAB cartridges) for broadcast, and show how these problems can be avoided with proper head alignment in the production and air studios.
