Digital Filter Application for an In-Phase and Linear-Phase Loudspeaker System: Realization of a Two-Way Loudspeaker System

Document Thumbnail

A proto-type, two-way loudspeaker system which strictly satisfies in-phase and linear-phase properties is presented. The speaker system is composed of a speaker section (two woofers, one horn-type tweeter and a cabinet), an amplifier section, and a digital signal processing circuit. The 512 tap, FIR filters (inverse filters) and the digital delay circuits of the signal processing circuit, function to compensate fluctuations on the sound pressure responses and to adjst the delay time difference between the low-pass and high-pass channels, giving the speaker system in-phase and linear-phase properties. The speaker system produces flat sound pressure and linear-phase responses in the practical frequency range. Application of an IC card to the digital signal circuit, where inverse coefficient data for the speaker units are memorized, facilitates easy adjustment of the system's responses.
