A new method of feedback controlled scaling (FCS), dependenton time or the r.p.m. of the car engine, proves to be highly sensitive to acoustic characteristics of car noises. The new psychoacoustic approach is combined with advanced audio signal processing, using a real time transputer-dsp 32 C network. Shaping of car indoor noises is performed by implementing those acoustic features digitally which proved to be most desirable in preceding psychoacoustic tests. The results show that the approach is valid and can be used as a guideline for successful car sound engineering.
