A new type multi-channel digital audio tape recorder using half inch cassette tape was developed. The system can offer 2.7 hours recording capability of 8-channels/20kHz audio signal at normal sampling mode and 4-channel/40kHz audio signal at high sampling mode, as well as synchronization function with other units including video/film equipments. This paper discusses the system design, signal processing and its performances.
