A composite of ion plated ultra-fine diamond shaped crystals of hardened carbon film on titanium substrate was shown to offer physical properties highly suited to application as a speaker diaphragm material. It was established that, in contrast to previously tried single materials, this composite's internal loss is sufficient to raise the sound propagation velocity dependent high range resonance frequency with a view toward improvement of frequency response.
