An integrated operational voltage controlled amplifier (OVCA) is described (SSM2014) which realizes all of the necessary functional characteristics of both voltage controlled amplifiers and operational amplifiers. In many applications the device performs both functions simultaneously. In addition, the IC employs circuitry allowing dynamic class A/AB selection and gain variable compensation, extending the useful gain range. Performance data are presented along with unique applications for automated signal processing which are not realizable using contemporary VCA's.
