A digital audio recording format is presented using rotary heads, 6.25 mm tape on either open reels or cassettes, and offering extended editing capabilities: razor editing, internal memory editing or electronic copy editing. The format uses 4 channels of 20 bits sampled at 48 kHz and includes a longitudinal command/cue track to record automated editing commands. The 4 channels are normally used as stereo with full repetition to improve editing convenience and give extra error correction but can be used independently.
