The PD format is a worldwide format of the stationary head digital audio tape recorder for professional use. The PD recorders have high reliability thanks to a recording method with practical recording density and a robust error correcting code. Moreover, 2-channel and multichannel recorders are used for different purposes, thus the PD format has optimum format adaptability. This paper describes an overview of the 2-channel and multichannel PD format.
