With the introduction of the Compact Disc and other digital program sources, broadcasters need to extend the dynamic range of stereo broadcasts in order to faithfully transmit the new programs. Recent advances in FMX technology have resulted in improved performance and the development of a final specification for this new FM stereo service. Analytical studies and broadcast field tests have confirmed the system compatibility and effectiveness in improving both home and automobile stereo reception.
