It is not often that an opportunity to design and install a system in a totally new environment presents itself. Many recent changes encourage a strong emphasis on a clean design of audio-for-video. The relatively recent interest by consumers in the audio component of television broadcasting as a result of the advent of stereo has resulted in an increased emphasis on the quality of the audio signal. Quality audio can be an important factor for a PBS station competing in a major market. Coming in the near future are digital audio signal storage and processing. New and different circuitry presents the opportunity for more effective audio system design. These, and other, factors, encouraged the engineering management of KCTS to give high priority to the audio system.
