The feasibility of applying present sensor technology to the development of an optional playback cartridge for vinyl LP records is studied and various techniques for detecting groove wall position on a standard LP vinyl disc optically, are examined. Various approaches to design have been presented and their competitive cost and performance factors analyzed for perspective in final design evaluation and selection.
