In the first place, sufficient volume is needed to obtain a good (especially low frequency) response of a room, a must in view of the developments in digital recording and musical practice. However, for economic reasons, studios and control rooms tend to have small dimensions. A study of subjective judgments and the measured response of existing facilities have led to a better design for this category of studios. Special low frequency absorbers were developed to equalize the rooms. Examples of time delay spectrometry measurements will be shown.
