Technological Decoupling of Digital Signal Processing Applications Using a Service Protocol (A Standardisation problem?)

Document Thumbnail

For signal processing installations with a big lifetime-request (e.g. Broadcast and Sound Studio), there exists the demand of using various signal processing equipment over the lifetime. This demand for interfacing different SP-elements, acquired at certain points of time within the lifetime period and realized with different (performance improving) technology, necessitates (DSP) interface standardization. But even with one closed DSP-environment, this demand is pending. As technology changes (e.g., with the appearance of improved Signal processing LSIs) and considering the request for enhanced product lifetime, compatibility problem arises. In this paper, a solution for the above mentioned problem shall be suggested for a digital signal processing environment, consisting of a data transport system (bearer service) and DSP application elements. An interface will be described, which technologically decouples the DSP application-specific parts from the data transport-specific parts.
