New Head Technology for Multichannel DASH Recording

Document Thumbnail

A professional 48-channel digital audio recorder conforming to the DASH (Digital Audio Stationary Head) double density format is introduced. This recorder's high-track density has been made possible due to advances in thin film technology which realize a stable recording system with a narrow guard bandwidth of 16 µm, and in high packing density ferrite playback heads with a 200 µm track pitch and 125 µm track width, both covering 52 tracks in a 1/2-in width. The digital audio tracks of this 48-channel recorder are fully compatible with those of previously released DASH 1/2-in normal density 24-channel recorders. This paper describes the head technologies used in the DASH 1/2-in double density recording, the recording and playback circuits, and also the compatibility with 24-channel recorders.
