A Suggested Layout for a Stereo Mastering Installation

Document Thumbnail

The art and science of transferring recorded information from tape to disk, whether it be single or double channel, has, in recent years, increasingly occupied the minds of design and operating engineers alike. On the one hand the addition of stereo to the world of disk recording, and on the other the economics of the recording industry, have both contributed greatly to the improvement in mastering techniques. Add to this the ever more prevalent practice by record companies of producing simple master-stamper conversions of their acetates rather than suffer the quality losses inherent in three-step processing, and you have enough valid reasons for improving the system layouts and automation processes in transfer operations.
