The effect of high sound levels in the recording, modification, reproduction and reinforcement of audio has not been examined in terms of interaction with the Central Nervous System. High level sound induced interference with components of the Central Nervous System such as the Voluntary Nervous System, the Autonomic Nervous System, The Endocrine System and the Hypothalamus, cause dysfunctions of necessary conscious and subconscious mechanisms. These physiological phenomena will be examined as well as the relationships between high level sound and the disturbance of job and task performance in such phenomena as the Orienting Response, the Defense Response, the Arousal Effect, and the Distraction Effects.
