Experiments concerned the audibility of non-linear distortions in opening portions of tone pulses. Tone pulses were compared differing only in the length of the initial portions of distorted waveforms. Various tone frequencies and various forms of non-linear distortions were tested. At frequencies as high as 320 Hz all 15 listeners could invariantly detect the presence of transient non-linear distortions contained in a single initial period of vibration.
